The Truth About Hijab in the Qur’an

The Deception6 days ago13 Views

The word “Hijab” is never used in the Qur’an to mean a headscarf or a piece of cloth that women must wear. Instead, hijab in the Qur’an means a barrier, a separation, or a curtain.

Many people believe hijab is about covering the hair, but when we go directly to the Qur’an, it never commands women to cover their hair or faces. The real commandment is about modesty, covering the chest, and lowering the gaze—for both men and women.

The Qur’anic Verses on Modesty and Dress Code

  1. Lowering the Gaze Applies to Both Genders
“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is aware of what they do.” (24:30)

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears, and to draw their coverings over their chests.” (24:31)

  • The first command is about controlling your eyes—modesty starts with behavior, not clothing.
  • Both men and women are commanded to lower their gaze and guard their chastity.
  1. Covering the Chest, Not the Hair
“And let them draw their coverings over their chests.” (24:31)
  • Women at the time already wore head coverings (khimar) but left their chests exposed.
  • The command here is to extend their existing coverings to cover their chestsnot their hair.
  • Nowhere does it say to cover the hair, face, or entire body.
  1. The Outer Garment for Public Safety, Not Religious Law
“O Prophet, tell your wives, daughters, and the believing women to bring their outer garments closer to themselves. That is more suitable so that they may be recognized and not harassed.” (33:59)
  • This verse tells women to wear an outer garment when going out to be recognized and protected from harassment.
  • This is a practical command based on the social conditions of the time—not a universal religious law.

Hadith Contradicts Reality and the Qur’an

The problem with Hadith is that it often contradicts the Qur’an and reality itself.

  • The Qur’an forbids alcohol, and those who drink it and abuse it end up in problems and destruction—proving the Qur’an right.
  • The Qur’an forbids gambling, and those who engage in it eventually lose everything—proving the Qur’an right.

But then, these same people who claim hijab is a requirement for success ignore reality.

  • Many Muslim women who don’t wear hijab are extremely successful in life.
  • Many non-Muslims who don’t wear hijab are doing just fine.
  • If hijab was truly a divine law that impacted success, why do people who don’t follow it still succeed?

When you take man-made rules and try to make them divine, you undermine the Qur’an itself.

Hijab in the Qur’an is About Separation, Not a Headscarf

The Qur’an does use the word “hijab”, but not for women’s clothing.

“And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a hijab. That is purer for your hearts and theirs.” (33:53)

  • Hijab here means a separation or barrier, not a headscarf.
  • The verse refers to not living with your stepfather or having personal separation in private settings.
  • Nowhere does hijab mean covering hair.

Hijab is an Act of Worship, Not a Law

Islam is about willing submission to Allah, not forced rituals. Every act of worship must be done out of sincerity.

  • Wearing modest clothing is an act of devotion, just like fasting or giving charity.
  • Saving yourself for your husband, dressing respectfully, and avoiding unnecessary attention are part of faith.
  • But Islam does not force worship—prayer, fasting, and even charity must come from the heart.

If hijab is a personal choice to seek Allah’s pleasure, maintain modesty, and show devotion, then it’s valid and commendable. But forcing it as a law only pushes people away and removes the sincerity behind it.

Forcing Worship is Shaitan’s Work

Islam is never about compulsion—forcing hijab, forcing prayer, or forcing any act of worship goes against the Qur’an.

“There is no compulsion in religion. The right path has been made clear from the wrong.” (2:256)

When people enforce hijab as a law, they are not helping Islam—they are doing Shaitan’s work by:

  • Deterring people from worship.
  • Creating resentment instead of sincerity.
  • Driving people away from Islam by making it oppressive.

Allah gave humans free will—worship must come from the heart, not from fear of people.

The Problem: People Don’t Read the Qur’an, They Follow Scholars’ Agendas

Most people who push the headscarf hijab narrative have never read the Qur’an themselves.

  • They regurgitate words from scholars who profit off religious control.
  • They impose cultural rules and claim them as divine laws when the Qur’an never says it.
  • They ignore that the Qur’an emphasizes modesty, dignity, and behavior—not a specific dress code.

The truth is clear for those who actually read the Qur’an.

Final Thought

The Qur’an does not command hijab as it is understood today. The focus is on modesty, dignity, and protecting oneself from harm.

  • Modesty is important. Dressing respectfully, behaving with dignity, and saving intimacy for marriage are all part of Islam.
  • Hijab is an act of worship, not a compulsion. Just like fasting and prayer, it must come from sincerity, not enforcement.
  • Forcing worship on others does not bring them closer to Allah—it pushes them away.

If Allah wanted head-covering to be a religious obligation, He would have commanded it clearly in the Qur’an. But He didn’t. That should tell you everything.
