2:226 For those who swear not to have relations with their wives is a waiting time of four months, but if they return, then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Infers: Islam provides space for reconciliation in marriage. But scholars have added harsh restrictions, making divorce a complicated and painful process rather than one based on fairness and mercy.
2:227 And if they decide on divorce—then indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
Infers: Divorce is allowed but should be handled with wisdom and justice. Later rulings made it unnecessarily difficult, often trapping women in unfair situations due to rigid laws.
2:228 And divorced women shall wait for three menstrual cycles, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs, if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have the right to take them back during this period if they desire reconciliation. And women have rights similar to those against them in a just manner, but men have a degree over them. And Allah is Almighty and Wise.
Infers: Islam ensures fairness in divorce and reconciliation. But later rulings have created imbalances—either stripping women of rights or forcing them into situations against their will. The Qur’an’s justice should not be distorted by man-made additions.
2:229 Divorce is twice. Then, either keep [her] in an acceptable manner or release [her] with good treatment. And it is not lawful for you to take anything from what you have given them unless both fear that they will not maintain the limits of Allah. But if you fear that they will not keep within the limits of Allah, then there is no blame upon them if she compensates to secure her release. These are the limits of Allah, so do not transgress them. And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah—it is they who are the wrongdoers.
Infers: Divorce was meant to be a last resort, handled with fairness. Later rulings have turned it into an oppressive system where women are forced into unjust conditions. Scholars and institutions often prioritize cultural traditions over the Qur’an’s clear guidance.
2:230 And if he divorces her [for the third time], then she is not lawful to him afterward until she has married another husband. And if the latter husband divorces her, then there is no blame upon them if they return to each other if they think they can keep within the limits of Allah. These are the limits of Allah, which He makes clear to a people who know.
Infers: This law prevents men from abusing the divorce system. However, scholars have distorted it, creating humiliating “halala” marriages where women are forced into temporary marriages just to return to their first husband. This is a man-made perversion of divine justice.
2:231 And when you divorce women and they have reached their term, then either keep them in a fair manner or release them with kindness. But do not keep them intending harm to transgress [against them]. And whoever does that has certainly wronged himself. And do not take the verses of Allah in jest. And remember the favor of Allah upon you and what has been revealed to you of the Book and wisdom by which He instructs you. And fear Allah and know that Allah is Knowing of all things.
Infers: Divorce was meant to be fair and kind, but later rulings have turned it into oppression. Some men use religion as an excuse to control women, while scholars create endless complications. The Qur’an promotes justice, not manipulation.
2:232 And when you divorce women and they have completed their term, do not prevent them from remarrying their [former] husbands if they agree among themselves in a fair manner. This is instructed to whoever among you believes in Allah and the Last Day. That is purer and more righteous for you. And Allah knows, and you do not know.
Infers: Some cultures and scholars create unnecessary barriers for divorced women, treating them as second-class. Islam gives them rights and dignity, yet many man-made laws limit their choices.
2:233 Mothers may breastfeed their children for two complete years for whoever wishes to complete the nursing [period]. Upon the father is their provision and clothing in a fair manner. No person is charged with more than their capacity. No mother should be harmed because of her child, nor should a father be harmed because of his child. And upon the [father’s] heir is a duty like that. And if they both desire weaning through mutual consent and consultation, then there is no blame upon them. And if you wish to have your children nursed [by a wet nurse], there is no blame upon you as long as you give payment in a fair manner. And fear Allah and know that Allah is Seeing of what you do.
Infers: Islam establishes fair parenting laws, yet later rulings created unjust child custody laws, often favoring culture over Qur’anic justice. Scholars have manipulated Islamic law to serve patriarchal interests rather than fairness.
2:234 And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind, they shall wait four months and ten [days]. And when they have fulfilled their term, then there is no blame upon you for what they do with themselves in an acceptable manner. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
Infers: Islam gives widows the right to move forward with their lives, yet many cultures impose excessive restrictions, shaming them for remarrying or controlling their decisions. These are later rulings, not Islam.
2:235 And there is no blame upon you for that to which you indirectly allude concerning a proposal to [widowed] women or conceal within yourselves. Allah knows that you will have them in mind. But do not promise them secretly except honorably, and do not resolve on the marriage contract until the decreed term reaches its end. And know that Allah knows what is within yourselves, so beware of Him. And know that Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.
Infers: Widows have full rights to remarry, yet many societies shame them, contradicting the Qur’an. The obsession with controlling women’s choices comes from scholars and institutions, not Allah.
2:236 There is no blame upon you if you divorce women before you have touched them or specified for them an obligation. But give them a gift—the wealthy according to his means and the poor according to his means—as a provision in a fair manner. This is an obligation upon the righteous.
Infers: Islam prioritizes fairness, even in divorce. But later rulings turned it into financial battles where scholars dictate unnecessary burdens that complicate simple, fair divorces.
2:237 And if you divorce them before you have touched them and you have already specified for them an obligation, then [give] half of what you specified—unless they forgo it or the one in whose hand is the marriage contract forgoes it. And to forgo it is nearer to righteousness. And do not forget graciousness between you. Indeed, Allah is Seeing of what you do.
Infers: Divorce should be handled with respect and generosity. Yet scholars have created rigid financial laws, making it bitter and unfair.
2:238 Maintain with care the [obligatory] prayers and [in particular] the middle prayer, and stand before Allah in devotion.
Infers: Prayer is about devotion to Allah, yet many scholars focus more on the external rituals than sincerity. The Qur’an prioritizes faith, not just actions performed without meaning.
2:239 And if you fear [an enemy], then [pray] on foot or while riding. But when you are secure, then remember Allah, as He has taught you that which you did not [previously] know.
Infers: Islam is flexible in practice. But many scholars enforce unnecessary rigidity, making religion difficult rather than adaptable, as Allah intended.
2:240 And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind—a bequest for their wives is a year’s maintenance without turning them out. But if they leave [of their own accord], then there is no blame upon you for what they do with themselves in an acceptable manner. And Allah is Almighty and Wise.
Infers: Widows have full rights to financial security, yet many institutions exploit religious laws to deny women’s rights. The Qur’an prioritizes justice, but scholars have often sided with cultural biases.
2:241 And for divorced women is a provision according to what is acceptable—a duty upon the righteous.
Infers: Islam protects women’s rights in divorce, but man-made rulings often leave women financially and socially vulnerable, distorting the original intent of justice.
2:242 Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you might use reason.
Infers: The Qur’an encourages independent thinking. But scholars discourage questioning, making people dependent on them instead of seeking guidance directly from the Qur’an.
2:243 Have you not considered those who left their homes in thousands, fearing death? Allah said to them, “Die”; then He restored them to life. Indeed, Allah is full of bounty to the people, but most of the people do not give thanks.
Infers: Trust in Allah is greater than fear. Many today fear man-made laws, scholars, and societal expectations more than they fear disobeying Allah’s true commands.
2:244 And fight in the cause of Allah and know that Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
Infers: Islam teaches justice, but many scholars twist the concept of jihad for political or financial gain. True jihad is standing for justice, not violence for power.
2:245 Who is it that will loan to Allah a good loan so He will multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.
Infers: True charity is for the sake of Allah, not for profit. But many institutions turn religious giving into business, selling Islamic services instead of helping the needy.
2:246 Have you not considered the assembly of the Children of Israel after [the time of] Moses when they said to their prophet, “Appoint for us a king, and we will fight in the cause of Allah”? He said, “Would you perhaps refrain from fighting if fighting was prescribed for you?” They said, “And why should we not fight in the cause of Allah when we have been driven out from our homes and our children?” But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, except for a few of them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
Infers: People claim devotion until sacrifice is required. Many defend their scholars and institutions blindly but hesitate when faced with defending Islam itself.
2:247 And their prophet said to them, “Indeed, Allah has appointed Talut as your king.” They said, “How can he have kingship over us while we are more worthy of kingship than him, and he has not been given wealth?” He said, “Indeed, Allah has chosen him over you and has increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature. And Allah gives His sovereignty to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing in Knowledge.”
Infers: Leadership should be based on righteousness, not wealth or status. But today, Islamic leadership is based on fame, money, and political connections.
2:248 And their prophet said to them, “Indeed, the sign of his kingship is that the chest will come to you in which is assurance from your Lord and a remnant of what the family of Moses and the family of Aaron had left, carried by the angels. Indeed, in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.
Infers: Signs from Allah are clear, but those who seek power manipulate faith for their own gain.
2:249 And when Talut set out with the soldiers, he said, “Indeed, Allah will test you with a river. So whoever drinks from it is not of me, and whoever does not taste it is indeed of me, except one who takes [only] a handful with his hand.” But they drank from it, except a few of them. Then when he crossed it along with those who believed, they said, “We have no power today against Goliath and his soldiers.” But those who were certain that they would meet Allah said, “How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allah. And Allah is with the patient.”
Infers: True faith requires discipline, patience, and trust in Allah. Most people fail their tests because they lack restraint. Today, many Muslims fail their tests by blindly following secondary rulings instead of sticking to the clear message of the Qur’an.
2:250 And when they went forth to [face] Goliath and his soldiers, they said, “Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
Infers: Victory comes with patience and sincerity. But today, many look to scholars, institutions, and external authorities rather than strengthening their own faith and connection to Allah.
