Surah 2 – Al-Baqarah (101-125) – Translation & Inferred Meanings

The Quran1 week ago12 Views

2:101 And when a messenger from Allah came to them confirming what was with them, a group of those who were given the Book threw away the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know.

Infers: Scholars today do the same—they claim to follow the Qur’an but discard it for Hadith and rulings that contradict it. They act as if the Qur’an is secondary.

2:102 And they followed what the devils practiced during Solomon’s reign. Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved—teaching people magic and what was revealed to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut. But they did not teach anyone unless they said, “We are only a trial, so do not disbelieve.” Yet people learned from them what could cause separation between husband and wife. But they could not harm anyone except by Allah’s permission. And they learned what harmed them and did not benefit them, knowing that whoever practices this would have no share in the Hereafter. How miserable was the price for which they sold themselves, if only they knew!

Infers: Those who twist religion—creating laws not from Allah but from their own desires—are no different from those who practiced magic to manipulate people. Many religious figures today use their authority to control, mislead, and profit rather than guide.

2:103 If they had believed and feared Allah, then the reward from Allah would have been better, if only they knew.

Infers: True belief is not in rituals or rigid laws but in sincerity and reverence for Allah alone.

2:104 O you who have believed, do not say “Rā‘inā” but say “Unẓurnā” and listen. And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment.

Infers: Words have power. Disbelievers mock religion by twisting meanings—just as scholars distort Qur’anic teachings through selective interpretation.

2:105 Neither the disbelievers among the People of the Book nor the polytheists wish that any good be sent down to you from your Lord. But Allah selects for His mercy whom He wills, and Allah is the Possessor of great bounty.

Infers: Those who oppose the Qur’an’s clarity and sufficiency—whether from outside or within Islam—do so out of fear of losing control and influence.

2:106 Whatever verse We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring something better or similar. Do you not know that Allah is over all things competent?

Infers: Allah refines His guidance through time, but scholars misuse this concept to justify contradictions in Hadith. The Qur’an is final and complete—no scholar can claim to bring a better ruling.

2:107 Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and you have no protector or helper besides Allah?

Infers: No scholar, imam, or sect leader is your protector. Only Allah holds dominion, and only He can guide.

2:108 Or do you intend to ask your Messenger as Moses was asked before? And whoever exchanges faith for disbelief has strayed from the straight path.

Infers: People always demand more rules, more explanations, more “guidance” outside of what Allah has already provided. This is why Islam today is buried in man-made rulings.

2:109 Many among the People of the Book wish they could turn you back to disbelief out of envy after truth has been made clear to them. But forgive and overlook until Allah brings His command. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.

Infers: The biggest enemy of Islam is not outsiders—it is those within who distort it for personal gain. The Qur’an calls for patience and trust in Allah’s plan.

2:110 And establish prayer and give zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves, you will find it with Allah. Indeed, Allah sees what you do.

Infers: Religion is about action, not blind obedience to scholars. True piety is in prayer, charity, and sincerity.

2:111 And they say, “None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian.” That is their wishful thinking. Say, “Produce your proof, if you should be truthful.”

Infers: Those who claim exclusivity over salvation—whether Jews, Christians, or Muslim sects—are wrong. Only Allah judges.

2:112 Yes, whoever submits himself to Allah and is good will have his reward with his Lord. They will have no fear, nor will they grieve.

Infers: Islam is about sincere submission to Allah, not membership in a sect or following a scholar’s fatwa.

2:113 The Jews say, “The Christians have nothing to stand on,” and the Christians say, “The Jews have nothing to stand on,” although they both recite the Scripture. Thus, those who do not know say the same. But Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning their differences.

Infers: Division is a human flaw, not a religious necessity. Islam is no different—sects accuse each other, but Allah alone will judge.

2:114 And who is more unjust than one who prevents Allah’s name from being mentioned in His mosques and strives to ruin them? It is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them in this world is disgrace, and they will have in the Hereafter a great punishment.

Infers: Those who close masjids for politics, restrict knowledge to scholars, or turn religion into business are among the most unjust.

2:115 To Allah belongs the east and the west, so wherever you turn, there is the Face of Allah. Indeed, Allah is All-Encompassing and All-Knowing.

Infers: Faith is not confined to locations or rituals. It is about recognizing Allah’s presence everywhere.

2:116 And they say, “Allah has taken a son.” Glory be to Him! Rather, to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth; all are devoutly obedient to Him.

Infers: Assigning partners to Allah—whether prophets, saints, or scholars—is falsehood. Islam is purely monotheistic.

2:117 He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is.

Infers: Allah’s command is supreme. No scholar, Hadith, or ruling can override His authority.

2:118 Those who do not know say, “Why does Allah not speak to us or bring us a sign?” Thus said those before them; their hearts resemble each other. We have already made the signs clear for people who have certainty.

Infers: Those who seek extra signs or additional guidance beyond the Qur’an fail to recognize that all truth has already been given.

2:119 Indeed, We have sent you with the truth as a bringer of good tidings and a warner, and you will not be asked about the companions of Hellfire.

Infers: The Prophet’s role was to deliver the Qur’an, not to establish extra rulings beyond it.

2:120 The Jews and Christians will never be pleased with you until you follow their way. Say, “Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the only guidance.” If you follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you will have no protector or helper from Allah.

Infers: Islam must remain independent of foreign influences, including fabricated religious rulings that mimic other faiths’ rigidity.

2:121 Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital. They are the ones who believe in it. But those who disbelieve in it—it is they who are the losers.

Infers: Reading the Qur’an as it was meant—without outside distortion—is the key to true belief.

2:122 O Children of Israel, remember My favor upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds.

Infers: A reminder that guidance is a privilege, not a guarantee.

2:123 And fear a Day when no soul will avail another soul at all, nor will compensation be accepted from it, nor will intercession benefit it, nor will they be aided.

Infers: No scholar, saint, or Hadith narrator can intercede for you—only your sincerity matters.

2:124 And [remember] when Abraham was tested by his Lord with words and he fulfilled them. Allah said, “Indeed, I will make you a leader for the people.” [Abraham] said, “And of my descendants?” Allah said, “My covenant does not include the wrongdoers.”

Infers: Leadership in religion is not inherited or self-appointed. Only Allah chooses true guides.

2:125 And We made the House (Ka’bah) a place of return for the people and a place of security.

Infers: Islam is a return to truth, safety, and simplicity—not complexity and man-made restrictions.
